Purpose of the Course
- To introduce newly elected stewards to the basics of the trade union organisation
- Dealing with issues like the history, operations and the constitution of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM)
- Empower stewards to deal with day-to-day problems that workers meet at the workplace.
- Help stewards to understand their roles and responsibilities as elected leaders.
Content
- Understanding the sectors we are organizing and their complexities.
- NUM and its founding principles.
- Constitution of the NUM.
- Understanding workplace rights and agreements.
- Dealing with disciplinary cases.
- Collective bargaining and negotiations.
- Understanding Health and safety as a basic right etc.
Target
- All the newly elected stewards at the workplace, training must take place within three months of their elections.
