Purpose of the Course
- To build on the experience and the training the stewards had from the union Induction Course and to encourage them.
- To involve other members in making the union strong and effective.
- Help stewards to think about how best they can respond to many issues and problems that the members have.
- Encourage stewards to become the workplace educators and involve the membership in discussions about the union and its campaigns.
Content
- The role of the steward in the workplace and in the union.
- Gender and the National Union of Mineworkers
- The challenges facing NUM and the broader trade union movement
- Representing members effectively
- NUM approach on Health and Safety and HIV/AIDS issues
Target
- All stewards that have been taken through the union induction course and have the basic understanding of the NUM.
